Someone asked me the other day, what I wanted from a love relationship. I said, “I want to wake up everyday and know that my husband is there beside me, mentally, emotionally, physically”.
Jehovah Shammah means The Lord is there.
Ezekiel 48:35
“And the name of the city from that time on will be:
THE LORD IS THERE.”
When Ezekiel was building the city (read the whole chapter to understand), he had specific measurements, and then He declared that the place shall be called Jehovah Shammah. Can you imagine God walking throughout an entire city…always being there. What would you do if you know that God is always with you?
I find that it is difficult for people to set up an altar for God as Jehovah Shammah. It just is. But the truth is that He is always there. One time I dreamt that I had a man walking beside me on a dusty Safari road. I kept looking across at him and after a while I asked who he was. He smiled and kept walking. So did I because I was minding my own business, but there was no coincidence that this guy was walking with me just because. So after an hour or so of walking on the never ending road, I asked again. He didn’t say anything. But He smiled at me. Right there and then I realized that this man was just keeping me company.For the entire dream, He just kept walking beside me, talking to me when I talked to Him, and keeping quiet when I said nothing. That was Jehovah Shammah.
This year, I made a promise to myself that I would put God first in EVERYTHING. For that, I needed to have a relationship with Him like never before. I find it so much easier now to pray and believe God and talk to Him, and that’s because I can finally say that I know God as my Jehovah Shammah. Now Jehovah Shammah and I are so close, that when I open my eyes in the morning, He is the first person that I talk to and that’s because He is the first person on my scene of life. So we lie in bed, chatting, preparing for the day, loving, and comforting each other (and yes, God is grieved by things).
See in order to have a relationship with someone, both of you have to agree to be there for each other: to listen, to vent, to lie with, to love, to hold… When we call on Jehovah Shammah we are saying that He does all that, simply because He’s there. I pray you establish a relationship with Jehovah Shammah.
